About Vancouver
While tacking into Vancouver by sailboat on a beautifully fine clear
summer day, the hurried bustle of aqua buses from here to there is like a
ballet of enchanted delight. How, boats seem to come so close to one
another at such speeds without ever touching is a mystery to the eyes of
the newcomer. But the newcomer is always welcome in Vancouver, as are any
who come to visit British Colombia. Commerce, trade, and leisure, are all
well understood by the more than 500,000 inhabitants of this maritime dream.
For hiking, skiing, island hopping, gallery shopping, museum history, or
just taking it easy in a café, Vancouver British Colombia is an
astonishingly hospitable city of relaxation and adventure. Across the
Straight of Georgia is the Island of Vancouver, and on a clear day,
mountains and sea can be seen from any direction of the city. The Vancouver
Library Square, reminiscent of the Roman Coliseums, is just one of many
eclipsing megalithic architectural monuments that make the city center a
wonder of human grace. So much so in fact, that the Van Dusen Botanical
Garden has 22 hectares in the middle of the city and offers daily tours.
For day tours, the UBC (University of British Columbia) Botanical Gardens
have more than 70 acres of different species of plants and trees from
around the world. Gastown in the old colonial sector of town, sports a
steam powered clock tower surrounded by cobble stone streets, more than a
hundred years old and still in use.
Coming to Vancouver BC by sailboat is not the only way, as inbound land
travelers come as far west as possible along The Trans Canada Highway, “The
Jewel of the Pacific”, is an enchantingly relaxing urban destination after
kilometers of mystical Canadian countryside. People who come by air to the
Vancouver International Airport come from all walks of life and corners of
the world to find excellent airport buses transporting visitors through
Canada’s third largest city to excellent hotels and back daily.
