About Winnipeg
The city of Winnipeg has a beautiful history and is one of the most
peaceful cities in the world. For thousands of years, the place where the
Red river and Assiniboine rivers meet has also been the meeting place for
cultures and peoples. The Winnipeg, a tribe that once inhabited the region,
gave name to the city and began trade with the first French fur traders in
1733. Pierre Gaultier who established Fort Rouge in 1738, gave birth to a
people known as the Métis who until the early 1800’s were a mix of French
speaking fur traders with natives, living in the region. Later, Winnipeg
became a British city which thrived as the largest trading city in all of
Canada.
Population has always increased with the economical success in Winnipeg,
and it is now a peaceful Canadian city with jobs and prosperity. The
Manitoba Museum is an excellent place to learn about the cities history and
culture as well as about the magical auroral night sky. Assiniboine Park is
a great day tour with its scenic walkways, miniature train and theatre and
English garden. Fort Whyte Centre is a great place to go fishing for the
day or just walk around in the great Canadian outdoors. A cruise down the
river Rouge in a paddle wheel, with lunch aboard the fine restaurant, can
be a romantic way to spend the day as well. If movie going on a winter
night the IMAX Theater is the most vicarious cinematographic experience
today, with its special immersion technology that literally puts the
audience in first person.

1928 in Winnipeg and now has daily flights to all the major cities in
