The Sheraton Hotel Chain is a subsidiary of the Starwood Hotels Group and was acquired in 1998. Before that Sheraton had a long and innovative history as a world renown hotel.
The Sheraton was first established as a hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1937 by the entrepreneurs Robert Moore and Ernest Henderson.
Within two years they had already bought three more hotels in the city of Boston as well as properties and holdings from Florida to Maine. By the end of the decade, the name Sheraton became the first listed hotel in the New York Stock Exchange.
The first international expansion of the Sheraton began in 1949 in Canada, through the purchase of two hotels. The Sheraton success and excellent service grew so rapidly that by the early 60’s there were business travel and luxury Sheraton hotels in both the Middle East and Latin America. Sheraton opened its 100th hotel in 1965.

The Sheraton flexibility and open-minded business sense, made them break the cold war dogma deep in the 80’s. In 85, Sheraton opened the very first operating hotel chain in the People’s Republic of China.
