Formula 1 - British Grand Prix
Silverstone, England
Being a former WWII airfield, Silverstone hosted it first race in 1948. Organized by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC), the track was made using the runways that were already present. The circuit hosted the first Formula 1 race ever in 1950. When the British Racing Drivers’ Club took Silverstone over in 1951 the first modifications were made into realizing a more adequate racing circuit. Dualling with the Brand Hatch circuit, Silverstone gradually underwent additional modifications in the seventies, eighties and nineties and the current circuit is a modern complex and the home base of British motor sports.
Silverstone Circuit
Silverstone is comparable to the circuits of Magny-Cours and Barcelona with a varied combination of fast and slow curves. Partly due to the importance of Great Britain as delivering F1 teams, the circuit is used intensively for testings throughout the year. Silverstone is located 115 km north of London, near the towns of Towcester and Brackley. Although the accessibility of the circuit improved drastically in recent years, the travel time to get here during the British Grand Prix venue can be considerable.
