Formula 1 - Grand Prix of France
Magny Course, France
Circuit de Nevers Magny Cours
Located in the central France region of Nievre, the circuit of Magny-Cours is situated half way Paris and Lyon. Originally build in 1960, the circuit is located in a provincial area near the town after which the track was named. Since 1970 the circuit serves as an important home base for the French motor sport. When President Mitterand decided to invest in the region’s economy and taking the circuit as a key-project in doing so, the circuit became interesting for F1 racing. After a major upgrade of the tracks, it started hosting
the Grand Prix of France as of 1991
Although the circuit lacks a typical ambience, the facilities of Magny-Cours are superb. The asphalt on the track is nowhere as neat as here and the circuit has a diverse combination of slow and pin curves. The circuit layout did not change since early days, though, most corners are changed and the total track spans a distance of over 4 kilometers. The perfect asphalting of the track makes Magny-Cours a desired circuit for testing, though, with rainfall it can get pretty slippery here.
