Formula 1 - Grand Prix of Spain
Barcelona, Spain
Thanks to the 1992 Olympic Games that were hosted by Barcelona, the Grand Prix of Spain is held at one of the most modern circuits in the world. Used as a cycling track during the Games, the circuit has hosted the Spanish Grand Prix since its inauguration in 1991 and alterations to improve the track continued over the years. Besides the races held here since 1991, the F1 teams are also familiar with the circuit as it is used extensively for testings.
Circuit de Catalunya
It can be stated that the Circuit de Catalunya is designed for the cars as in general, the better car can take its advantage at this venue. This is mainly due to the ingenous mix of high-speed and low-speed curves with variying lengths and the grip of the track. It is not olnly difficult for the pilots to find the right balance but it requires as well an optimal combination of achieving high speeds in the extended curves while not loosing time in the slower curves.
Located 30 km north east of Barcelona, the circuit is easily accessible via major routes. Flying into Barcelona’s El Prat de Lloregat airport by air, you will find buses and trains that will take you to the city and the racing tracks (close to Montmelo train station).
