Many of Helsinki’s attractions are set on islands. A recommendation is the Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, build on six islands and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a variety of museums and set in a picturesque ambience, a visit to the 18th century fortress is a must upon visiting Helsinki. The Ateneum Art Museum and the Kiasma are two museums that are also definitely worthwile a visit. Furthermore, a popular tourist site is the Temppeliaukio Rock Church.

If you plan on heading inland into Finland, there are good rail connections from Helsinki to to Turku, Tampere and Lahti.
