mountain village, when a local peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, saw eighteen visions of the Virgin Mary in a cave near Lourdes. Since
the late 19th century, it transformed into a place that nowadays attracts over 7 million visitors a year, both tourists and pilgrims.
