From there you can easily get to the centre. The German train system is efficient and coming by train to Berlin, you will be taken directly to the Zoo Station in downtown Berlin.
The historic centre of Berlin is surprisingly compact and is best explored on foot. A good alternative to get to know the city is to rent a bike. There are many special bike lanes and plenty of bike rental stops. Buses and trams are efficient as well as the U/S Bahn (metro). If you want to take a taxi, bear in mind that it is cheaper to flag one down then to call.
