About Munich
Munich is the capital of the bundesland Bavaria in southern Germany. Located on the river Isar within the picturesque hillside landscapes of Bavaria and the majestic Alpine mountain ranges bordering to the south, Bavaria is know for its culture and traditions, including the beer gardens, lederhosen and extraordinary church rooftops.
Munich is with almost 1,5 million inhabitants the third biggest city in Germany and a thriving metropolis in the midst of Europe. Most attractions and sights are located in a fairly compact area between the Central Station and the lively Marienplatz, the town’s epicenter with many bars and restaurants in the midst of the historical centre.
Besides the Marienplatz the English Garden is a major attraction for Munich’s inhabitants and tourists. Being Europe’s largest city park, the English Garden is a great place for relaxation, leisure activities and enjoying a typical beer in one of its famous beer gardens. Especially during summertime the park is a favorite spot to go to, while the park takes a central role as well in the annual Oktoberfesten, Munich’s world-famous event that takes place every year in the last two weeks of September.
