Athens’ recently built international airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) is located 27 kilometers (45 minutes) from the centre. We advise you to take a taxi to get to the city centre. Traffic in Athens is notoriously inefficient, but you should be able to navigate through the newly built metro and by taxi. Taxis in Athens are cheap and can be flagged down from any street corner, while the metro offers the fastest way to reach most central locations. Special minibuses run through the city center and although often overcrowded, they provide a cheap way to get around. As the city’s main attractions are on walking distance from each other, going by foot will provide you the best way to enjoy most of the city’s sights.
