About Milan
Milan is the commercial centre of Italy and many visitors to the city are visiting one of its many fairs and congresses. Though, the historical city has many to offer its visitors. The fashion district (quadrilatero della moda) with its many boutiques of the world’s most famous stylists and designers, the La Scala opera theather, the Duomo Catherdral and the Sforzesco Castle are some of the main sights that mark this glamorous city. Make sure you visit the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, home of the famous “Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci.
But above all, Milan is shopping. From the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery to streets like the Via della Spiga and Corso Buenos Aires, Milan’s grandeur will overwhelm even the most experienced shoppers.
Milan has two airports; Malpensa (50km/31mi from the city) is the main airport for most international flights, while Milano Linate (10km/6mi from the city) handles some European and most domestic flights. Public transportation links both airports to the city centre.
The subway of Milan offers an efficient means of transport for getting around the city. Most sights and attractions of Milan are located in or near the city center and on walking distance from each other. Besides the subway, buses trams and trolley buses support the city’s public transport network. Taxis are relative expensive and especially on rainy days and during events at the Fiera Milano, it often proves difficult to find one.
