About Atlanta
As the state capital of Georgia, Atlanta is a economical, financial and transportation hub in the South-East region of the United States. The city is the home town of Coca Cola, CNN and received fame for organizing the Olympic Summer Games in 1996. The development of Atlanta started after the Civil War. With the booming economic prosperity in the last century, the current modern metropolis left few traces to its roots as a provincial town in the South of the USA.
Downtown Atlanta is a reflection of the city’s wealth and importance as a business and congress town. Sky-high hotels and office buildings give the city the status of being referred to as the Capital of the South. An interesting site to visit in downtown is the State Capitol building, which is a historical remaining of the Atlanta in older times. Furthermore, the Georgia World Congress Center, an enormous complex that serves a wide variety of international events and venues throughout the year, is located in downtown. The Atlanta Underground mall and the adjacent Coca Cola museum are also well worth a visit.
North of downtown, the Midtown region is the centre of culture and entertainment in the city. A diverse district that combines people from all social classes and flavors, Midtown is a vibrant place that offers a variety of museums, theaters, bars, restaurants and nightlife. The central point in Midtown is Piedmont Park. With its lakes and leisure facilities, this is the place to meet and greet in the city and on Sundays the park is filled with citizens and tourists enjoying the great ambience and atmosphere of the park and its surroundings.
