About Honolulu
Capital to the state of Hawaii, Honolulu has been inhabited since the 12th century. The first Polynesians to live on the island came from the Southern Pacific, but in recorded history the famous battle of Nu’uanu Pali in 1804 established the court of Kamehameha the first on the Island of O’ahu from Waikiki. Captain William Brown of England was the first non-pacific islander to sail into Honolulu harbor “safe harbor” in the year 1794. From then on, many different foreigners traveling the Pacific Ocean from Asia to North America would use Honolulu as a “safe harbor”, the meaning of its name. The overthrown Monarchy in the later 19th century and political turmoil of the 20th did not harm the economical and social growth of the city, as the booming tourism has done much to keep the city thriving.
There are many places to go and things to do, most tourism comes through the Honolulu international airport, and visitors can from there go to any of the other surrounding tourist islands in the Archipelago.

The Honolulu Academy of Arts for example is one of the largest collections of Asian and Western art in the country and the largest in Hawaii. The Honolulu Symphony is the oldest music hall west of the Rocky Mountains and was built in 1900.
