Baltimore Hotel Reservations

About Baltimore

Named after the English family that colonized the state of Maryland, Baltimore played an important role in the American Revolution and ever since, its turbulent history has been characterized by booms and declines. Due to its favorable geographical location on the Patapsco River and Chesapake Bay, Baltimore served for a long time as one of America’s main trading ports. And with the railroad development in the States, Baltimore was an important terminal for the railway connections to the West. Those times are gone, though, the city is still an important transport hub, with a busy International Airport and centrally located in the Northeastern economic region.

The place where Baltimore’s prosperity began, the Inner Harbor, is nowadays the main tourist hot spot of the city. Besides attractions like the Maryland Science Center and the National Aquarium, the Inner Harbor region is a great place to meet and greet in Baltimore. A former run down warehousing district, the Inner Harbor area was revitalized in the 70s and its wide promenades are nowadays one of the city’s pride.

East of the Inner Harbor, the neighborhood of Little Italy is a second must-see upon visiting Baltimore. Home of the many Italian immigrants with came here during the 19th century, the district provides a wide variety of restaurants and the preserved ambience and influences of the Italian settlers make it a favorite spot for both tourists and locals. For great nightlife entertainment, the bars, clubs and music houses of the adjacent Fells Point district are a strong recommendation.

Just north of the Inner Harbor, Downtown Baltimore is a true business district where most companies and financial institutions are based, as well as the major hotel chains. The modern downtown, with the fancy skyscrapers and variety of great restaurant and eateries reflect the economic revival of Baltimore in the last few decades.

Going north on Charles Street from downtown, the charming neighborhoods of Mount Vernon and Bolton Hill are characterized by a great heritage of architectural buildings, cultural venues (Art and Music schools) and a lively student community. Another pride of the city, the renowned John Hopkins University, is situated close by in Charles Village.
