About Minneapolis & St. Paul

The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are situated in the state of Minnesota in the North Central part of the United States. Bordering Iowa, Wisconsin, Iowa, Canada and the both Dakota’s, Minnesota is an important agricultural state in the U.S. and a great place for outdoors activities. The cities earned their development to being a centre of grain production and trade, though, nowadays a variety of industries have Minneapolis/St. Paul as their home base and the city is an important economic and transport hub in the Central North of the United States.

Minneapolis

Minneapolis is the bigger one of the two and the most cosmopolitan. Characterized by its many beautiful lakes and parks, Minneapolis is a pleasant city for leisure and outdoor activities. Winters can be quite harsh in this region and downtown Minneapolis is marked by the so-called sky-walks, elevated pedestrian walkways connection office buildings and shoppings. With the Convention Center on the southside of downtown, the centre of the city is a typical American highrise business district.

North of downtown, the Warehouse district is a great place for shopping and nightlife. The charming neighborhood provides a variety of top-class restaurants and lively bars.

Northeast of downtown, on the other side of the river, the so-called Nordeast district is a must upon staying in the city. A melting pot of cultures and immigrants, the area provides a great variety of restaurants, including European, Asian and Mexican food, and bars. Close to Nordeast, the University community of Minneapolis is concentrated in the Dinkytown district. A vibrant area full of bars, stores, student houses and a college-life ambience.

Furthermore, the bohemian style Uptown district south of downtown combines classy and trendy shops with charming little bars and coffee houses. If you look for relaxtion or recreation, make sure you vist one of the many lakes and parks in or around the city. Most populuar among the locals is Lake Calhoun, where you can mingle in with the crowds that come her to exercise, relax or meet. The nearby Linden Hills, known for its antique and pecularity shops, is also definitely worth a visit.

St. Paul

Though being the capital of the state of Minnesota, St. Paul is smaller and more quiet than Minneapolis. The most interesting sites of St. Paul are the Cathedral Hill area, west of downtown where the St. Paul Cathedral is located and the lively university neighborhoods around Highland Park, with a high concentration of bars, restaurants and entertainment. The downtown area has besides the State Capitol building a variety of interesting museums to offer to its visitors, including the Minnesota History Center and the Science Museum. A nice attraction of St. Paul is a riverboat ride from Harriet Island, close to downtown.

The International Airport of Minneaopolis - St Paul is located about 25 km southeast of the two cities and both downtown Minneapolos as downtown St. Paul is quickly reached from the airport (normally less than half an hour).
