With temperatures rising above 40oC Celsius, forget exploring the entertainment city by foot as Las Vegas is an airco-driven city. Good public transportation facilities will take you where you want to go quite efficiently and renting a car is a good alternative, especially as the surroundings of the city are definitely worth a visit as well.
The interesting sites of Las Vegas are located in two main parts of the city: the Glitter Gulch in downtown and The Strip. Especially the latter is the place where most of the extravagant and glamorous casino’s and hotels are located. Arriving on the McCarren International Airport, you will be welcomed by the neon signed horizon of the Strip, with the gigantic Stratosphere Tower as its human-made landmark and point of orientation in the centre of it all.
Apart from the 24-hour mass entertainment industry in Sin City, the state of Nevada has some interesting sites to visit close to Las Vegas. The world-famous Grand Canyon makes a great day-trip and also the Hoover Dam, just south of Las Vegas and responsible for the energy supply to the city, is an amazing construction and definitely worth a visit.
